Yesterday was one of those lazy days. It rained and Sam spent the afternoon shuffling between the TV and her laptop. Then, she brought out her laptop and placed it on the coffee table. She was surfing while watching a feature on blondes on BBC. The sexiest blondes or something.
Pamela Anderson appeared on the screen and Sam said, “Sino ba yan?” I told her the name was Pamela Anderson and she used to be in a show called Baywatch — before she was born.
Then, she said, “Bakit ganyan boobs nya?”
“Eh, fake, eh,” I answered. “Dyan nga sya sumikat.”
Then, she was silent. Several minutes later, she was making a commotion and I saw Brad Pitt on TV. Sam jeered at me because Brad Pitt only made it to the third place (the judges were wrong). Then, silence once more.
All of a sudden, Sam was on her feet screaming we should watch Miss Universe at 8.00 p.m. “Nadapa si Miss USA!”
We don’t usually watch beauty contests at home, but… Well, actually, we were late tuning in to the Miss Universe telecast because we played Scrabble after dinner. We were in no hurry because we had already seen the Miss USA footage on the evening news. It’s already in YouTube.
Sam did manage to catch the last 30 minutes of the Miss Universe pageant. She said Miss USA was booed. Well, that is sad. It’s not her fault that there is too much anti-American sentiment going around these days.
