Overheard while waiting in line at the bank last week:
Woman 2: “Palitan mo motif mo. Hindi bagay sa anak ko ang violet.”
Wow, talk about a demanding stage mother, huh?
Let me translate that.
Woman 1: “Here is a sketch of the flower girls’ gowns. Violet with gold trimmings.”
Woman 2: “Why violet?”
Woman 1: “Violet is the motif because it happens to be my favorite color.”
Woman 2: “Change the motif. My daughter doesn’t look good in violet.”
In Filipino or in English, it sounds just as bad.
