I’ve taken thousands of photos of the sunset but I have very few photos of the sunrise. I’ve never been a morning person so that shouldn’t be too hard to understand. Besides, the colors of the sunset have always excited me more. Someone explained the difference to me once by pointing to an article in Wikipedia about how “sunset colors are typically more brilliant than sunrise colors, because the evening air contains more particles than morning air.”
So, I’ve never really bothered with sunrise photos. Until last week, that is, when I (with friends from law school) took a pre-dawn flight to Bacolod City and I saw through the plane window the sun rising above the clouds. It’s a totally different kind of trip altogether.
No, the photos weren’t taken with my bigass 5D Mark II. They were taken with my super portable G10. I’m really getting the hang of this travel-without-the-bulky-dSLR thing — something I wouldn’t do before. But it’s surprising what the G10 can do. The photos above are unedited (un-Photoshopped, that is) except for the addition of my signature.
