Hydroponics gardening: harvesting lettuce

Hydroponics gardening: harvesting lettuce |

To get a better context of this post, read about the Lotus Pod Agritour. That one explains hydroponics and contains details about where to get the hydroponics kit.

With that out of the way, I am so happy to announce that we harvested our first batch of organic hydroponics-grown lettuce. I would have harvested the lettuce weeks earlier but I thought they had all died. It wasn’t until we were in the grocery a few days ago when I wanted to buy a bunch of lettuce that Speedy asked what we’d do with the lettuce we had been growing in the garden. They were so big already, he said.

We attened the Lotus Pod Agritour on May 3. We bought the kit which came with lettuce seedlings (top, left). My plan was to take photos of the lettuce every week but, about ten days later, some of the seedlings had died and I lost interest. I figured it was just a matter of time before all the rest went R.I.P.

Apparently, Speedy kept at it. The seedlings that survived grew and grew. Today, as I ate the lettuce that I harvested from the garden, I mentally noted another milestone in our suburban life. Not only are we growing herbs and fruits, we are now also growing green leafy vegetables. We’ve come a long way, baby!
