The name of this cocktail drink is a play on the martini, a drink made with gin and vermouth. James Bond is probably the most famous endorser of the martini with his famous specification that his drink be “shaken, not stirred.” Well, until Daniel Craig came along, that is. In Casino Royale, after losing heavily in a poker game, James Bond was asked by the bartender whether he wanted his martini shaken or stirred. Bond replied irritably, “Do I look like I give a damn?”
The old-fashioned gin and vermouth mix has been overrun by newer and bolder mixes, some of which do not even resemble the original martini as they lack either gin or vermouth, or both. This greentini cocktail is one such drink. Although it is so named to make it appear related to the martini, the ingredients include neither gin nor vermouth.
This greentini cocktail recipe is the first in a series of drinks made with a bottle of Absolut Vodka that my brother-in-law and his girlfriend brought last Saturday.
Based on a recipe from About.com.
