If you want a new twist to your coffee, a twist with alcohol in it, here’s an easy recipe. Well, two recipes, actually, because there is a hot drink version and a cold drink version. Easy enough to prepare several cups for that after Christmas dinner coffee.
There are only three ingredients — coffee, sugar and butterscotch cream liqueur. The whipped cream topping is entirely optional.
What is butterscotch cream liqueur? It is an Irish cream which is basically Irish whiskey and cream. Bailey’s, for instance, is a brand of Irish cream.
For this recipe, I used a different brand of Irish cream — Merry’s which has so many flavors of Irish cream in the market.
You can make hot or iced creamy butterscotch coffee. The ingredients are the same. The instructions for both hot and cold versions are provided below.
- butterscotch cream liqueur
- To make hot butterscotch coffee, pour 3/4 c. of very hot coffee into a mug. Stir in half a teaspoonful of sugar. Add 1/4 cup of butterscotch cream liqueur, stir, top with whipped cream if you like, and serve.
- To make cold butterscotch coffee, pour 1/4 c. of cooled double strength coffee into a glass. Add a couple of ice cubes. Add enough butterscotch cream liqueur to fill the glass. Taste, add sugar if you like a sweeter drink. Topping with whipped cream is optional.
