Unlike the traditional (and very heavy) Filipino breakfast of sinangag (fried rice), fried fish or meat and fried eggs, my family normally has bread for breakfast. Pan de sal, white loaf bread or my favorite Frances loaf (whenever available) is served with tuna or chicken salad, cold meat, eggs, butter, jam… not all of those together though.
Another favorite is pancakes which the kids love to make themselves. It happens though that eating bread for breaskfast day in and day out can be boring.
So, we have boxed cereals as some sort of reliever. And cereals and fruits were what we had this morning–light, refreshing and I don’t know why but the combination just felt “sunny.” We actually bought a lot of fruits because we’re planning on making fresh buko (coconut) and fruit salad again but, this time, we’re adding apples, oranges and seedless grapes as well. We’re making the salad tonight and I’ll be posting the recipe with the photo tomorrow.
