We survived moving day and never went offline

THE DAY came and went, not as smoothly as we would have wanted, but we’re just too happy to entertain thoughts of blaming and whining. What went wrong? Well, we thought we did the packing thoroughly but it turned out that little things got overlooked. But all’s well that ends well. The old house is a mere 10-minute drive away anyway so retrieving what got left behind wasn’t such as headache.

Maki, Alex\'s new kitten

The truck made two trips. Alex, one house helper and I went on the first trip. Speedy, Sam and the other house helper finished the rest of the packing and followed several hours later. Yet, we still managed to misplace the cats’ litter boxes and the sack of litter.

Two truckloads of stuff were moved

The wonderful news is that we never went offline. No, our existing telephone line and broadband connection haven’t been transferred yet BUT the subdivision clubhouse has free wifi internet. Since the clubhouse is just across the street, we’re well within the range of the wifi signal. Nice, eh? If not for the free wifi, I’d be in a state of panic and going through severe withdrawal right now.

Alex reading manga

So, because there was free wifi, amid the boxes and the frenzy of moving, there was Alex reading her daily dose of manga.

The renovations went on even as boxes were unloaded one after the other, one on top of the other, filling most of the living and dining room areas.

Installing lock on front door

Above, the lock on the front door was installed.

Painting wood accents

Above and below, the painting wasn’t quite done yet. In fact, the painting of the exterior will take several more days. But as long as the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms are okay, I don’t care if it takes two more weeks to finish the exterior.

Painting the walls of the house

We knew that work would go one for another week or so still but I didn’t want to postpone the moving day anymore. We could hardly function in the old house during our last two days there after having sold most of the furniture. Besides, it’s better to be living in the new house already while the painters, carpenters, plumbers and electricians are still working so that whatever little changes or touch-ups I want, I can request and they will still be available to do them.

Installing the ceiling exhaust fan in the kitchen

Above, installing the ceiling exhaust fan in the kitchen.

Below, our new bed was delivered and assembled a little after lunch. The new mattresses arrived ahead of us.

Assembling the new solid wood bed

The new fridge didn’t get here until around 7.30 p.m. I was getting worried over the state of the food that were moved from the fridge in the old house but nothing spoiled, thank goodness.

So, there. The event that we had been planning for, the sweet dreams that we had been having, everything has finally happened. We’ve moved, we’re living in our new house and it is just too wonderful for words. :)

Delightful. I despise moving and swore after I got out of the Navy I would never do it again — but have done it four times since then! It would be worth it again to move to a beautiful home like that.

  17. More pics coming! Clubhouse wifi Internet died and am browsing with iPhone. Am itching to blog but can’t upload photos via iPhone.

By the way, anyone having probs accessing the site? Someone told me the front page had porn a few hours ago. Am wondering if anyone else experienced the same thing between last night and this morning.

re: By the way, anyone having probs accessing the site?

Ako, akala ko down ang server mo, kasi “server not found” ang message.

Anyway, Congrats on your new nest.

  22. JMonreal says:

When is the house blessing? Open house? I guess hangang pictures na lang kami.

Best Wishes! lots and lots of wonderful memories with your new house.

  23. robin says:

Hi Connie! Congrats on the move! Kami dito sa Riyadh, madami na ring times na nag-move. Apart from observing an age-old pamahiin na unahing ipasok sa bagong bahay ang bigas, asukal, tubig at asin, one lesson I learned is that it pays to have everything boxed and labeled as much as you can. Pero siempre, useless na itong lesson na ito. Naka-move na kayo e. He he. Kung nandyan lang ako, I will make sure I send a housewarming gift. What would you like to get, just in case? Sincerely,

  24. Salamat, salamat. :) At salamat din online na ako sa wakas. Didn’t even know the server was down (or was it hacked?) until a friend texted me this morning.

    BlogusVox, Speedy did it all.

You guys made it! I may not know the full extent of moving from one house to the other coz after we got married i only have clothes and knick knacks to bring with me in our new house from my parents’ condo, but I can imagine how crazy it was! But atlast you survived! By the way, is that your new house in the background?

  26. dhayL, ah, it was crazy! LOL

The house on the background is the neighbors’. I took that photo from our front door.

  27. Kongkong622 says:
