The walk out

My white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake

That day we went to see District 9 at Eastwood City, and Alex and I walked out halfway through the screening, we went to Cheesecake, etc. to while away the hour to let Speedy and Sam finish the movie. We each had a cake — a white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake for me and a mango cheesecake for her.

Alex had her mango cheesecake with a glass of mango juice. Alex always orders mango juice whenever we eat out. And I always take a photo of her mango juice. I have an entire mango juice photo collection from so many restaurants, glasses in different shapes and sizes and the garnishes ranging from nada to terribly overkill.

The mango juice at Cheesecake, etc. was topped with whipped cream. Yes, whipped cream. And Alex refused to touch the cream. She scooped it out and gave it to me. As though the calories in my white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake weren’t enough. And we were just killing time.

  1. Don’t bring Alex then to Eskimo Bob or she’ll be doing the next walk out LOL. I had a mango milkshake at its SM Mega-Atrium branch and I loved it!

    • LOL If she reads your comment, she’ll want to go hahahaha

Ate there at Eskimo Bob last night together with my two gay friends. We loved the food we ordered there (we ordered chicken cordon bleu with free mango iced tea – which was eight o clock but they put real mango bits). Eskimo Bob is a sister company of Icebergs.

Looking forward to eat there again.

I usually agree with you on your opinion on films but District 9 is not one of them. I think you really missed out by not completing the whole film. Was it the gore that made you walk out? I agree, it was over the top! Haha! But then again, I liked kill bill (both volumes).

In any case, the film’s much deeper than just CG for me. Ditrict 9 is actually an echo of earlier events that happened in Cape Town in South Africa during the 60s, when they still had forced segregation. An area in Cape Town called District 6 was named “whites only” and many Africans, Malays who lived there were forcibly evicted and moved elsewhere by the ruling white government. In fact, the movie was filmed in Chiawelo, which is a shack settlement that experienced this type of evictions.

I thought that the actor playing Wicus was superb in showing this kind of dorky, awkward desk-job type of guy dealing with something so mind-blowing as the changes he went through.

And the actions of the government rang true for me; they gave me chills.

I hope you give it another chance sometimes. The movie had me discussing and thinking about it even up to now. :)

    • That was what I thought of the first 30 minutes — political satire. Most people hated the eviction scene but I like how it was played out. Even the one-liners were superb. But somewhere after that, seemed like the director changed his mind and decided to go full-blast sci-fi and that’s where my interest went out the window.

I hate it when I get conflicting feedback about movies. :P

Though District 9 has got me interested, I just couldn’t convince my girlfriend to go and see it together. She simply is not interested in it.

Perhaps watching it on DVD would suffice in the near future.

    • I sympathize with your girlfriend hehehe. Box office results for District 9 is good, critical reviews are mixed, I knew that when we went to see it, I tried to keep an open mind, my open mind lasted less than an hour. LOL
