If you’re a long time reader, you’d know I watch very little TV. But Speedy likes watching TV. While switching channels, he came upon some public service affairs program where the host was reading messages sent in by televiewers via SMS. The topic was the slogans of the 2010 presidential candidates. Here is the observation of one televiewer:
Villar: Sipag at tiyaga.
Gibo: Galing at talino.
Noynoy: Mama and Papa. At may Kris pa.

Marcos, Estrada & Arroyo: sipag, tiyaga, galing, talino. Pilipinas lalong naging kawawa.
Noynoy: Mama and Papa and Kris. Two heroes and an incorruptible family. That’s great! Kay Noynoy na lang ako for a change baka sakaling dahil naiba e magkaroon ng pagbabago ang ating bansa.
Change is good. I don’t like Villar nor Gibo but I’m just not sure that Noynoy represents change for the better. And both his parents being “heroes”… that’s really a matter of opinion rather than a fact. Incorruptible family? That’s a very sweeping generalization.
Well, I’m a little iffy with Noynoy but he’s more acceptable to me than Villar whom I think is kind of flakey. I just can’t trust the guy. It seems like everything about him is money and his gazillion ads makes me puke.
Re Villar’s ads. That makes two of us. I wonder how much he paid Dolphy to come out in an ad…
Exactly what my husband and I have in mind… Not only Dolphy, add Michael V. and Willie R. on the list plus the prizes he gives away on the contests he sponsors on their television shows. That would definitely amount to millions!
Choosing between lesser evil, we would prefer Noynoy.
There are stats in a news article. He spent 70M in December 2009 alone. More than 500M in total, so far.
Next is Sarah Geronimo. I heard that Villar is now talking to her manager.
Funny how he justifies all these paid endorsements by celebrities by saying it’s because he doesn’t have a sister who’s a celebrity.
Talk with Sarah’s manager have been finalized. I wonder how much Villar paid to get Sarah. He said – habang pakurap-kurap siya – “hindi raw niya babawiin ang mga nagastos niya pag naging president siya”. I really can’t stand this guy like crazy.
He’s got a celebrity endorser IN EVERY AGE BRACKET — Dolphy, Michael V., and now Sarah Geronimo.
Sorry, I mean flaky. Can’t vote anyway but still wanted to express how I feel about these candidates. I thought finally we will be free from Arroyo and her likes but it looks like that’s not going to happen.
I find myself questioning Gibo and Noynoy now that both have backed out their support for an RH Bill.
Then again, I despise any politico who buckles under the idiocy of the CBCP
I find pathetic any person, politician or not, who follow the dicta of the CBCP unquestioningly and without reservations.

finally! I’m not voting as well, because of the same reason… I just can’t stand the thought that I’m giving my precious vote to someone I’m not sure can be trusted….
I’d rather not….. I’ve been burnt before when I thought GMA would be a good president (I had a good impression of her when she was just a senator)….. so burnt! she turned out to be one of the worst presidents I experienced…
My Mom has this one question for all those running for office running Presidency to senatoriables, why spend that much money for campaigns etc (like 500M of Villar) when the monthly salary of the President is BELOW 100,000 a month????? For power? Or Deals????
Villar answered that recently on TV and said he has no intention of recouping his expenses. And I just rolled my eyes. He’s a businessman, for crying out loud. And a shrewd one based on his history. What businessman does not recoup his expenses? What businessman does not double, triple, quadruple his investments?
Oskar Schindler.
Oh, come on, even Oskar Schindler profited from the war and there was a time when he had Jewish slaves (forced labor, in more polite terms).
But he did give in to his humanity in the end, didn’t he?
My point is that justifying Villar’s actions as normal business sense feels like a slap to the face of businessmen (and women) who find success in their endeavors while still sticking to a strong sense of ethics.
We’re talking about a businessman who wants to be president. That’s a different breed. And investments in the form of campaign expenses. Not comparable with honest business people.
Point taken. Though explaining Villar’s motives does not make him any less of a scumbag.
He gets under your skin, doesn’t he? Others are worse but they’re not as big a problem (minimal chances of getting elected) as Villar who has so much money to spend on his campaign.

nakakasuka na mga ads niya. his tarpaulins are always very huge. so i could just imagine how much he spent on these ads. more irritating is that he is advertised in almost all websites. one time serious n akong pinapanood yong isang video clip sa youtube and his ad just popped out of nowhere. nkakawala ng gana talaga. hai…
