Forgotten photos from Puerto Galera

Have you ever experienced finding something when you’re not looking for it and not finding something when you’re desperately searching? It has happened to me. Many times. Earlier today, I was looking for one very specific food photo in my hard drive and couldn’t locate it. You have to understand my filing system — the ... (more)

An afternoon in Phuket’s Patong Beach

When people ask how I found Phuket, I always say I loved the food. The truth is, the food is just about the only thing that I liked about Phuket. Which is not to say that it’s a terrible place. It’s just not the kind of place for me. For purposes of this article, when ... (more)

Boracay in January

I couldn’t have been more empathic — except for the frolicking on Puca Beach, I didn’t like Boracay very much. In fact, my first reaction upon seeing the beach was, “Where’s the beach?” Because all I saw were bars, restaurants and shops. That was summer of last year. Last week, Speedy was back in Boracay ... Under the sea in Puerto Galera

SeaweedsSomewhere between the excitement over buying a new house and the horror of surgery are the forgotten photos from Speedy’s Puerto Galera trip last month. I remember saying I’d post them after the sunset photos but my mind had been elsewhere most of the time (like 10 minutes away from our house) and I just plain forgot.

These photos somehow makes me envious that as small as Speedy’s camera is, it can can do one important thing that mine can’t. Perhaps, someday, when I can afford the underwater housing for my dSLR…

Sunset in Puerto Galera

Speedy and his officemates were in Puerto Galera for three days last week. It was a company-sponsored outing so I couldn’t go with him. He did bring home a lot of photos though. These sunset photos were taken from the roof deck of Paul’s Place where they stayed. I’ll post the underwater photos later.

Taking back what is ours

If you think Boracay is paradise, you’d only be half right. True, the quality of the fine white sand is not exaggerated, and the water is still cleaner and clearer than a lot of other beaches in the country. But Boracay isn’t for me. My idea of a beach as a getaway venue is one ... (more)

Dragons, crocodiles and artists

This dreamcatcher had a monkey’s skull at the center. The price tag was P4,000.00 so we had to content ourselves with gaping at the thing. I should mention at this point that when we passed the stall and the girls were with us, I pointed out the dreamcatcher to Sam. You know, for someone interested in dreamcatchers, I thought it was a good idea to show it to her. Huge mistake. She bugged me endlessly to buy it.

The Boracay experience

By dinner time, I was willing to concede that the tables on the brightly lit beach did have a charm all their own. Still, not being one to enjoy life in crowded places, I kept wishing there was more to Boracay than what I had seen so far. That wish would be granted the following day when we went island hopping.

White Beach is nothing compared to the solitude and pristine beauty of Puca Island and Crystal Cove.

Six days, six nights

BoracayI’m back. Two nights in Boracay, one night at the Sampaguita Gardens Resort in New Washington, Aklan and three nights in Roxas City. We went island-hopping and snorkeling in Boracay, took photos, feasted on the food and did some shopping.

We photographed some Faberge eggs and a painting by Cory Aquino at Sampaguita Gardens, bought dolls, took more photos (it’s a picture-pretty place), enjoyed an Oriental dinner, had coffee by the roaring sea…
