So, surprise me on Mother’s Day

A few nights ago, driving home from my mother-in-law’s birthday dinner, Sam was whining from the backseat when she was going to get a new digital camera. I said I didn’t know. I had just paid her tuition for the entire year and I felt that my bank book was deflated — and I mean, physically deflated. There are far less zeroes and less numerals to the left of the decimal point too. I sighed as I thought about some of the things I had been planning on buying for myself which will all have to wait.

I don’t begrudge the amount I spend on her horrendous tuition fees (Speedy pays for Alex’s). We chose their school because we felt it was the best in the area and the quality of the education it offered should be our guiding point — not the tuition fees. But there are times when I feel like pampering myself too and it just seems to me that my planned buys somehow get pushed down to the bottom of the priority list every time. So, I sighed as I thought the macro lens for my 2-year-old EOS 350D, a mother’s day gift from Speedy in 2005.

Then, a flicker of hope. Sunday was mother’s day. I may not need to buy the macro lens at all… I have a husband and don’t husbands shower their wives with gifts and lots of pampering on mother’s day?

I turned to Speedy and said, “Sunday is mother’s day. Am I going to have a new macro lens?” He smiled wickedly and said, “No, no, no, no, no…” Yeah, five NO’s — I counted ’cause he said it in a sing-song way.

So, I sighed again. And sighed again as I though of the 17″ MacBook Pro. Not that I’m tired of my MacBook, mind you, but a larger screen will be kinder to my not too perfect vision. I’m in my forties, for goodness’ sakes, and my vision is not what it was when I was 16.

So, I turned to Speedy again and said, “Oh, I know! No lens because you’re going to buy me a MacBook Pro.”

He didn’t even turn to look at me but simply repeated his sing-song response, “No, no, no, no, no…”

What the hell. So, surprise me then. Maybe, he’ll present me a deed to a new and bigger house.

My son will be coming home to celebrate Mother’s Day and we’ll be eating out at the Indian casino buffet. Hopefully my wife wins in the slot this time. Happy Mother’s Day.

Can husbands hide from their wives on Mothers’ Day? Can’t a torrid kiss, a tight hug, and a heartfelt “i-love-you,” take the place of the amazing gifts of gadgetry? Hehehehe. Baka lamg po puedeng lumusot.

  7. Connie says:

LOL Noemi. Very direct answer from Butch ha. hehehe

MM, it’s a stand mixer hehehe the unsaid message: more baking please! LOL

iskolar111, hope you had a great day.

Doc Emer, pwedeng-pwede. Our mother’s day tradition nga is that I don’t do any chores for the day.

BUT — and this is a very serious BUT — nakakatipid ako pag nakakahirit ng gifts. Kasi, instead of me buying, he gives HAHAHAHAHAHA

anyway, Connie, i am not my husband’s mother (LOL), so each year during mother’s day, i have not expected anything from him. that was why before mother’s day, when the old laptops conked out, i bought myself my new sexy MacBook.

did you finally get your MacBook Pro? if not, i am very sure one of these days, you will get it. when we moms aspire for one thing, chances are…we will get it.

  11. inna says:

if i ask brent (my hubby) that question- he’ll say, “YOU’RE NOT MY MOM…”
    :)

  12. Connie says:

LOL inna. If my hubby told me that, di ko sya kakausapin for one year hehehehe

  13. inna says:

:) sabi lang yun…pero may present si kai for me (bili ng daddy nya!). they made me breakfast and we had brunch…
hmmmm- i wonder what i’ll get for my birthday…

  14. Connie says:

sexy mom (bagong fish out from Akismet yang comment mo), actually, I was never one for occasions. The habit was acquired after I got married because occasions are big in Speedy’s family. I think he realized the disadvantage later but too late for him. I have discovered the advantages hehehe

Wala pa yung MacBook Pro. He won’t buy be one, for sure. And I knew that when I pestered him in the car hahaha Baka lang kasi sakali hehehe Just like the MacBook I have, I’ll have to buy that myself.

inna, ang sweet ano when the kids hand you a mother’s day gift. Sam made a card for me…
