Ship ahoy!

Strange or not, one of the things I obsessed with during the cruise was photographing boats and shorelines. I especially liked scenes that included both boats and a wide expanse of shoreline. It’s amazing to watch an island come into view. First, it’s a just a speck. Then, a blurry mound. As it gets nearer, the shoreline becomes visible as a line. Then, trees and buildings become visible. Tiny and blurry at first then clearer and bigger as they got nearer. There’s just something poetic about it. I’d stand on the deck, wind on my face, and take photos. In the morning, in the afternoon, at sunset and even at sunrise.

Day 1 aboard the Legend of the Seas, the two photos below were taken as the ship was leaving Singapore just after 5.00 p.m. on November 20.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, I was trying to capture the trail left by the boats. I wanted photos with long, long trails but the boats weren’t fast enough.

Yes, I took photos of the shoreline of every port we visited — with boats.
