To make cooking an enjoyable experience and make it feel less of a burdensome chore, do something you really like while cooking. For instance, listen to music or even dance to music if you can manage it without dropping ingredients on the floor. I don’t recommend watching TV while cooking because cooking requires that you keep your eyes on the food.
In my case, the heat and humidity in the kitchen becomes more bearable when I have a glass of cold drink while I cook. Yesterday, it was a refreshing cocktail made with orange juice, pineapple juice and rum. I’m not good at making up names of cocktail drinks so I’m calling it orange, pineapple and rum cocktail just to be descriptive.
You may want to use vodka instead of rum. That was my original thought, actually, except that I located the bottle of rum first.
- 1 cup orange juice
- ½ cup pineapple juice
- ¼ cup white rum
- ice cubes
- For best results, chill the orange and pineapple juices before mixing in the drink. If you rely on the ice to make the drink cold, it will be so diluted with water by the time it turns ice cold.
- Put the ice cubes in two glasses.
- In a small pitcher, mix together the juices and rum (a cocktail spoon, the one with the long handle, is ideal for this job).
- Pour the drink into the glasses. Serve at once.
