My new favorite breakfast cereal

I’m no breakfast cereal girl. Heck, I’m no breakfast girl, period. But we buy boxes of breakfast cereals mostly for Sam. Condo living in the city, you know, and the convenience of boxed food. At home here in the suburb, we rarely have cereals but when we do, we usually go for Post cereals — the honey bunches of oats variety with almonds or strawberries whichever is available. We’ve tried other brands but most I found unappetizing.

Early this week, Speedy and I were at the grocery and there was this shelf with everything on it priced at a discount. The first thing that caught my eye were the boxes of Belle France’s muesli croustillant au chocolat noir. The phrase chocolate noir was dancing before my eyes. I’ve bought Belle France dark chocolate bars before, also on sale, and have used them for baking. And they’re swell. So, if the same dark chocolate was in those boxes of muesli, well… wow!

Muesli is uncooked rolled oats with fruits and nuts. Croustillant is French for crispy. Chocolate noir is, of course, dark chocolate. And was there dark chocolate in the box of cereals?

Yes, yes, YES!

Lots of dark chocolate.

When cereals are this good, I don’t mind having a bowl in lieu of a sandwich.

I don’t even mind having cereals more than once a day. In fact, yesterday, I had a bowl of this muesli croustillant au chocolat noir for dessert.

Am I a convert now? Has this muesli croustillant au chocolat noir made a breakfast person out of me? No. I still have trouble getting up before noon. But that’s no reason why I can’t enjoy a delicious bowl of cereals any time of the day.

Back in high school, cereals were my main fare for breakfast. Later on, when my daily activities required a heavier meal, cereals became a snack or something to munch on during movie marathons. :D

    Hi Connie:
I have been looking for this cereal for well over 2 years. The Meijer Supermarket in Michigan, USA used to carry it. I checked with their distributor, and was told the cereal was discontinued due to lack of sales. I don’t know how because I bought every box within 100 mile radius. I even saved the last empty box because I am in love with the cereal. Could you tell me the stores (city and country) where you found the cereal? I would love to see if they are willing to sell and ship a couple of dozen boxes. I have put extra boxes in the freezer, and they stay fresh that way. I would be eternally grateful for any information you could provide. Carrol
