just popped a 10 pie into the oven with a lard crust like mary, my grandma made back in the fifties. don't take offense but my grandma while admiring your beautiful and yummy-looking results would have laughed at calling it pie. with the fluted shallow edge she would have known what you made as a tart, like the french tart tatine although they have no top crust. if you want to make a pie with lard all you need is rendered lard. there is nothing that i know of called baking lard. it usually is three cups flour to one cup lard, a dash of salt (about a tsp.) and slowly add ice cold water a tablespoon at a time. here in ohio on this rainy day mine used about ten tablespoons. i have in very dry weather used up to 12. flour absorbs moisture so therefore less on wet days.

Happy New Year!!!! Few minutes left for new year to come here in Australia. 2 1/2 hours left in Pinas. Can't wait! Still remember our traditions in Pinas..
I tried cooking apples in brown sugar first as what Doddie did so it would be mushy to put in pie. I would love to try yours and Rowie's rum apple pie. ;) That sounds really interesting.
I'm looking forward for your more baking especially brazo de mercedes...want to learn that for my hubby n his family as they are big fan of sweets! I wasn't allowed to prepare any dessert or meal when we were in NSW coz its only a wk, which just last wk.
Anyways more power! And more recipes for this coming new year! Happy Happy New Year to you and to your family!
Cheers!
