Came across Fatal Error (HBO) and I forgot that I intended to go to bed after the kids left for school. The best part came at the end of the movie just before the credits–it was based on a true story. According to some sites, the film was supposed to have been retitled Fatal Desire for legal reasons but on HBO this morning, it was Fatal Error.
Anyway, whether Fatal Error or Fatal Desire, the story was based on the book Fatal Error by Mark Morris and Paul Janczewski, reporters who documented the case of Sharee Miller who was convicted for conspiracy to murder her husband, Bruce.
The murder of 48-year-old Bruce Miller had all the hallmarks of a botched robbery. Miller was known to carry thousands in cash and was closing up his auto salvage business in Flint, Mich., on Nov. 8, 1999, when someone shot him and took his wallet. Sharee Miller, his 28-year-old wife, appeared devastated.
The police focused their investigation on John Hutchinson…
But the spotlight quickly shifted to Sharee Miller. A Missouri lawyer called with documents he had found in the briefcase of a man named Jerry Cassaday, who had just committed suicide. In suicide letters, Cassaday, a ex-cop and Reno casino pit boss, admitted to killing Bruce Miller and said Sharee Miller had put him up to the job…
Cassaday’s briefcase also contained a transcript of an AOL Instant Messenger (IM) chat between Sharee Miller and Cassaday. This document would become the prosecution’s strongest evidence. In the chat, Miller gives Cassaday directions to the junkyard where her husband worked and tells him which roads to use to avoid police. She tells him the best way to approach her husband without causing alarm, and suggests that Cassaday shoot inside to minimize the noise. She tells him to get out when “it’s done.” [CourtTV.com]
You really have to read the full account (also available at MobMagazine.com) because it isn’t just a murder case. It’s the story of a manipulative woman, a pathological liar who lived a double life and who provoked her lover to kill her husband based on make-believe stories of wife beating, gang rape and mafia connections. And you know how she did most of it? Through chat and e-mails. The true story is so fantastic you’d think it was a movie script. But it isn’t.

To answer some questions to comments through out.. no her madien name is not Johnson. As for information.. She has three children that will not be left alone by the media. They are with out a mother, their real father has nothing to do with them, and I am sure the same goes for Bruces family. Except for his kids are grown. Sharee’s are not. Sharee did not pull the trigger. We can all talk whatever we want, that does not mean we really want it to happen, but when a person we are talking to takes it that way, then it should fall to their shoulders also. I am glad that she is happy again, and might be able to see her children in school plays and see her daughter in her prom dress. Yes, I am sorry Bruce was taken from his family, but like reports say, there were two other guys the police were looking at with really good motives and no alibis.

Sharee Miller was a good friend of my frriends mother. She just was releast from prison with no proll or any thing. Shes innocent! She out now & can move on with her life. I feel bad for her.

I am not believing that Sharee Miller was recently released from prison due to the fact that the evidence used in her trial (the information gleened from the deceased Jerry Cassaday’s breifcase) should not have been admissible since he was not around to testify. Why in this world that would even be an issue is beyond me. It is there in black and white – the emails between Sharee and Jerry with Sharee giving detailed directions to the junk yard, what roads to travel to avoid police, instructions to Jerry about shooting the gun inside so there would be no noise, telling him to take his wallet so it would appear to be a robbery, telling him to park to the right of the door, where the light switch was inside, not to speak to Bruce, wear gloves, and on and on and on – eight pages worth to be exact. What part of all of this does not equate to a carefully planned murder plot between two people on AOL?? It doesn’t matter if Jerry’s not around to testify, the proof is in the AOL transcript!! What an injustice to the families of Bruce Miller and Jerry Cassaday. I can only imagine how they all feel knowing that justice is not being served. I have never seen a more manipulative, selfish, sadistic, emotionless, non-compassionate liar in my life than Sharee Miller. I bet she never shed a tear for either Bruce or Jerry. She only cares about her own hyde. I can only hope that the state of Michigan will once again try and convict her for Bruce’s murder and put her back in the slammer where she belongs. It’s a real shame that she can’t be tried and convicted for the murder of Jerry Cassaday too because in my opinion his blood is on her hands too. If it weren’t for her he would still be alive. She is ultimately responsible for the deaths of two men in my opinion and whether she pays for it here on this earth or not I have no doubts that she will ultimately pay the day she dies and has to face her maker. I sure wouldn’t want to be in her shoes when that day comes. I hope her new husband sleeps with one eye open!!
I just watched this story on Dateline. The evidence was overwhelming against this horrible murderer. She killed him as sure as if she had pulled the trigger, she basically prostituted herself out as payment to find a hitman. She manipulated him into thinking her husband was a horrible wife beater that killed their child (that she lied about being pregnant with) by beating her. She is a horrible excuse for a human being, and I cannot believe that this stupid judge set her free to roam the streets again. Her defense attorney is just trying to win a game he knows that she is guilty as sin too. I hate this whole disgusting story, it sickens me.
I do not understand how no one could think that the killer, that was a cop, could have made the evidence up to make her look guilty. Her reactions were not rehearsed, she was generally remorseful and she thought that justice would prove her innocence. If there was more evidence them that of a dead man I would feel better believing it. But we are in a justice system that is innocent until proven guilty and if the conviction is overtunred she is innocent again until she is tried again if she is. But an alcoholic that takes drugs and has other issues should not be believed because he kills himself.

hmm..i love reading these cause people are all crazy lol first of all yes she did do it..theres plenty of proof and oh yeah i was there through it all..as far as for her being innocent,. yeah right from the first time i met her and she put her child over the banister railing to sneek into jerry’s house to get her stuff and leave without him knowing i knew she was bad news..of course i was a little kid then and nobody ever listens to a kids opinion..but anyways..ive lived this horrible story along with many other families who have suffered as much if not more than i have…i hope to be sittin in the courtroom for the new trial..

I just learned that Author Terri F Williams is writing the Biography of Sharee Miller. Her web page is http://www.authorterriwilliams.biz It has all the information about this book as well as her other books. Apparently Terri Williams use to be a corrections officer at the same prison that Miller was in. This web page says the book with all the truth in it will be out in the Spring 2010.

Jerry made the choices to kill her husband and then himself, if he was weak and allowed himself to do it then thats on him. I also know this woman, I met Bruce one time and I didnt even know he was her husband because she was always to busy flaunting and flirting with other men. I dated a man for 2 years before I found out that he was married with 3 children, even went to his mothers for Thanksgiving and Christmas on year with the whole family! People cheat and they lie. No one will ever know the real truth except for the people that were in that salvage yard at that moment. As for the trial, my husband in a fed and we always talk about reasonable doubt, I think that the jury forgot about that and went all emotional….probably because they have all been lied to and cheated on in the past. This should have come down to the facts and reasonable doubt and that is it! The guy who killed himself was a detective so he would know how to set all of this up. FACT. If he did it, where is the gun or physical evidence of the kill (bloody clothes etc. He kept everything else!)? FACT Another man STATED just days before that he was going to kill him (to his own brother who TESTIFIED to it). FACT That’s called reasonable doubt people. No matter what you all think, Lady Justice is Blind and Has No Heart!!! The jurors f’ed up as far as I am concerned!
The people who thinks she’s innocent must be family members or very close friends of Sharee Miller to believe she’s not guilty. If it was their family that she did this to, I’ll bet they would have a totally different opinion & feeling about this woman. I am still home and free, It will be two years this month. I have won at every level, thank God. There is more to the system then people care to learn. Whether you believe my innocence or you believe I am guilty doesn’t affect me. I want to thank those who spoke out for me, I appreciate the voices of knowledge speaking out. Everyone has an opinion in this life. But some opinions are not based on the HARD facts. Whenever there is a “shadow of a doubt” in a case in our justice system then there should be a not guilty verdict. Those are the instructions that are given. We cannot find people guilty based on our feelings or opinions of that person. I am now in the US Supreme Court still fighting for a fair and just trial. If it would have been fair and the laws would have been followed by the Judge (who by the way should have known the laws) then maybe the outcome would have been different. I remember watching several people being released from prison once DNA WAS A FACTOR. So many people spent so many years in prison when they were innocent. How many of you judged those very people guilty of those crimes because the prosecutors case LOOKED good? Only now to find out after many many many many years in prison they were ALL INNOCENT? So sad that we live in a world full of judges, so sad that so many people judge others when really, honestly, we ALL have only one judge…Our Lord and Savior. Have a blessed and safe life.
