Libingan ng mga Bayani, or Heroes’ Cemetery, is located at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. Just so there is no confusion, there is a tablet at the Heroes’ Memorial Gate (page 4 of this entry) that says the official location is Makati City, yet the official website of Taguig City counts the Libingan ng mga Bayani among its landmarks. So, to explain a bit…
Fort Bonifacio used to be a sleepy military fort until it became Global City. It was turned over to the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) in 1995 pursuant to R.A. 7227 or the Bases Conversion and Development Act of 1992. The winning bidder was Bonifacio Land Holdings led by Metro Pacific. In 2003, Ayala Land and Evergreen Holdings bought out Metro Pacific’s controlling shares. In short, Fort Bonifacio today became prime commercial real estate and home to 5-star condominiums, restaurants and a sprawling shopping complex called Market! Market! And the cities of Taguig and Makati fought it out in court out as to which should be the proper recipient of real estate tax payments. Last I heard, Taguig won.
That said, here are photos of the Libingan ng mga Bayani taken in April last year.

Iwould llike to make a request. My father was a WWII Veteran and was in Death March. His name is Full Colonel Manuel Escares Maravilla. He died and was buried in the cemetery December of 1969 or 1970. He retired from the Phil. Army and if any chance you have in your file his Military Records could you send them to me via E-mail if posible. If in any case you cannot perform my request, could you please refer me to someone that can help me with my father’s Military Records. Thank you for your efforts.
Adrian, sorry, can’t help you.
Yes! At least I read one objection to the renaming of Manila International Airport.
I hope he wasn’t buried in the Heroe’s Cemetary.
Joe, most politicians… their first official act is to rename a street, a school, a hospital or even an airport in honor of some dead relative. Like I said, poor taste.
hi!
meron po akong tito dyan sa pinas siya si MAJOR GENERAL PROSPERO A OLIBAS na taga cagayan valley.gusto lang po sa nang malaman ang kanyang military record kung puwede? salamat po.
joe.b, visit the armed forces website.
Nice blog. One of the best, I spent two days of my vacation just browsing over it, and I’m not finished yet.Love it, reallyand nice family you’ve got.I do agee with you about naming the airport after Ninoy but for a different reason, I thought it is a great diservice into his memory naming after him a decripit and ineffecient airport.
I wondered what happened with my request I asked about when I send my email to you. I accidentally surf the web and saw my father’s name, but anyhow, thank you again for your reply and your efforts. May the Almighty bless you for what you are doing for our heroes.
adrian, i gave you my response above. and i’m not doing anything for any heroes. i don’t even believe in heroes. i’m just a photo hobbyist.
can you possibly take a close up picture of the crosses w/ the dead soldiers name on it? I’m looking for col pablo d evangelista ret. col. paf. He was buried at the libingan sometime sept of 07. Thanks
Wow. I don’t remember you hiring me as your secretary.
If you have nothing to do with our heroes, then at lease appologised that your job does not allow you to do what we are asking for. Any how for your information the military records of our heroes was sent to Washington D.C. They have this stupid f…ing, pardon my French, regulation that the only relatives who can ask for our heroes military records, is the spouse, the first born child, the first born grandchild, etc…. To bad, by Gods will I am not not one of these people. Not even those who followed their fathers foot steps who are also a veterans themselves cannot ask for their farther’s military records. Now you know and please pass this along. “Pagpalaan ka Ng Maykapal.”
Oh, the pictures were really nice. Thank you. Maybe someday I myself may help my fella sons and daugthers of our heroes. I will keep you posted. That is if you do not mind. Again, thank you for your service and “Pagpalaan ka Ng Maykapal.” They are all what our country has left for us to remmember for. I am not angry at you, but I am just pissed off with the process to this government, that is the US of A. Thank you again, you did a good work. Sorry.
Ang pinoy nga naman, pati iyong huling hantungan ng kanilang mga banyani ay palpak. Those crosses should remain upright at all times. Nakakahiya.

Grabe.
..also if someone would say MR. Reyes, did a great deal of service to this country and deserves to be at Libing ng mga Bayani…well he is paid…or over paid???
Apologies, i can’t just bear the dissapoinment I have for the AFP instution whom I thought the least to cheat. But the testimonies are just overwhelming to be a smear campaign.
wrongly posted comment on this topic..should have been to “the suicide wagon”.
You can repost it under the correct entry.
