The kitchen (the entire ground floor, in fact) had an all-white motif when we first saw the house. This was how the kitchen looked.

Four days ago, the renovations in the kitchen were almost done. The cabinets now sport a flat dark wood-stain finish that goes better with the granite countertops.

What’s “flat dark wood-stain finish”? Flat means it isn’t glossy. Dark refers to the shade of brown used. Wood-stain means a technique used to make the paint look like wood grains. Cabinet doors are usually made with plywood, not solid wood because of the weight. So there are no wood grains to speak of. By using the wood-stain painting technique, the cabinet doors now look as though they are made from solid wood.

Okay, the photo above shows the “flat dark wood-stain finish” better. That’s the breakfast counter; the photo was taken from the opposite direction.
The kitchen island has been moved to its proper location too (foreground of the second photo). As of yesterday, the three-piece pendant light over the kitchen island has been installed (photos of that next time).
It’s amazing how colors can change the mood of a room or section of the house. The yellow walls you see in the second photo is the dining area with French doors that open to the lanai. The walls looked a bit too yellow to me, I wanted it one shade lighter, so it’s going to look a different in future photos.
The kitchen itself is yellow. Like ripe mango. The walls haven’t all been painted yet when the second photo was taken and that’s why the wall above the sink is still white. The cabinet door handles will be replaced. I bought metal handles with brushed antique gold finish, the same finish for the handles of the front door, kitchen door, bedroom doors and bathroom doors.
More later. Have to go out again to pay the balance on the bed (Speedy’s and mine) and have it delivered.

Very nice transformation and color combination. The dark stain on the cabinets make it look very expensive.
Hehehe The painter’s idea actually. He’s really good with his craft.
Are you going to have a garage sale of your furniture from the old house? You seem to be buying all new ones ones.
Please let me know. You have my mobile number
Thanks!
That was the original idea. But we don’t have the time. We have buyers for the fridge, living room set and dining set already. But if we do decide on a garage sale after all, I’ll text you.
i totally understand. it is also taxing to have a garage sale.
invite mo na lang ako sa new house saka bigyan mo ako ng free cooking lessons heheheehe
Cocoy, of course! But did you get my e-mail? We have three large cabinets/bookshelves… Sent it to your gmail account.
Ako rin Connie; I’d be interested to see what you’re selling. With pics ba?
What a transformation!! It looks so nice, it’s amazing how a coat of paint and an excellent painter can do!
Nikita iisa yung may pic. http://casaveneracion.com/kitchen-cabinet. The two others are larger with bookshelves on top. I’ll try to e-mail you pics of the other two tomorrow. Hirap kasi, covered na ng boxes na nakakalat all over. If you live nearby sana, you can view them.
dhayL, exactly! If the painter were less talented, we’d be left with plain cabinets.
That’s a fantastic renovation… i like the new looks… perfect color combination that it makes the whole kitchen elegant.
Hi Connie,
Who’s your contractor, sya rin ba un nagpaint ng mga cabinets? can i have his contact details? thanks!
They came with the house, AngelMom. House and lot package so we didn’t choose the architect and contractor.
