Casa is Spanish for house. CASA is also an acronym for Connie, Antonio, Sam and Alex. We are all surnamed Veneracion. We all love to take photos -- of anything that catches our fancy. It's a family obsession.
This is a journal of how we live, eat, learn, play and have fun. Work? Work is part of playing and having fun. Seriously.

In 2003, a time when I hadn't heard of the term "blog", I started a recipe website at cooking.houseonahill.net using a now defunct content management system that ran on ASP. Ok, never mind the geek talk, I'm sure you're not interested in that. The contents easily multiplied and, in 2004, I moved the food site to pinoycook.net. Always unhappy with the fact that the dot com versions of houseonahill and pinoycook weren't … (click here to read all ยป)

Hi!
we are currently on the finishing stage of our new house. our kitchen will be made by the contractor (can’t afford a modular kitchen). i am hoping you can give me some advice regarding my kitchen choices. i am choosing between ariston and elba for my stove and oven. since you’ve been using elba i would like to know how would you rate its performance. i would be using the mechanism of a branded modular kitchen for my drawers and cabinets below the counter. did you use the same in your cabinets and drawers? why? i love to cook (if i have the time and energy) and your blog is an inpiration for me to continue my cooking experiments. too bad your allergic to seafoods, but anyways, reading your blog alwyas keeps me full.
p.s. how would i know if you have replied with my inquiry. hope you can email me. thanks!
naoj, I used an Ariston for 3-1/2 years. We still have both the cooking hob and the oven and we still intend to use them, just need a cabinet to house both. We kept them because Ariston is great. We bought the Elba range only because only Elba and La Germania have the size that would fit into the space allotted in the kitchen of the new house. If Ariston had a model with the size we required, we would have bought a second Ariston.
Elba is great too. Hard to compare the ovens because we have an Ariston electric (convection) oven while the Elba range has a gas oven. If power consumption is not a big issue with you, I’d go for the convection oven.
Re: “mechanism of a branded modular kitchen for my drawers and cabinets”
You mean the pullout baskets? Yes, I have them. Not for all the cabinets and drawers though.
thanks for your help.
i’ll go for ariston (gas).
another question, i’m a starter baker. i discovered that ovens have 6 functions, some have nine, others are self cleaning, etc. please help me. you’ve done so many baking. i’m sure by now, you know what is useful and not. i plan to make homemade bread, cakes, roast, etc. and try some of your recipes.
If you get a model with a gas oven, I suggest one with a rotisserie and griller (top heat). You know, for browning meat like whole chicken, turkey, chops, steaks and roasts. Electric convection ovens do this wonderfully but it’s different with gas.
I just want to know if you have cabinet for sale in Manhattan and how I will contact you to see the kitchen cabinet in person
Thank you
Tomas
