Hi ms.connie. I used to live in San Miguel Bulacan. We don't buy our sweets from the store coz few only sells new stuff. The best calamay can be bought near San Miguel Elem School in Poblacion. Ask for Nana Melia. She passed away a few years ago but her kids still continue the business. They also sell the best Rice cake bibingka. For chicharon and pastillas I highly recommend Elongs. The chicharon is a bit costly but a small pack is heavy. If you like a sinful one with loads of laman (skin fat). They use local skin that made their chicharon tasty. Unlike the airy bubbly ones we often see. Their pastillas has dayap that cuts the richness of carabao's milk and sugar. So it's not that nakakaumay. Hope this one helps. Oh, by the way elongs is located in San juan. :)

Go to Nagcarlan, Laguna. That's where kalamay originated. Wanna get yourself some espasol? (minukmok). Same place. Unless of course the old folks who knew how to make them had died.

FYI -- It's not; caramel is made with milk/cream and sugar and it is smooth, not curdled.
