The weather can’t seem to make up it’s mind — one minute it’s bright and sunny; the next minute, it’s cloudy. I hear it’s been raining down in Metro Manila but up here in the hills of suburbia, all we get is humidity. And humidity makes any creature thirsty. Speedy’s solution? Ice cold lemonade made with fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and lemon zest.
It’s very easy to make, the ingredients are all natural and Speedy had this genius idea of adding lemon zest for extra flavor and aroma.
Start by making lemon-infused simply syrup. Boil water and sugar, add lemon zest and cool. As the mixture cools, the syrup will acquire a lemony aroma and flavor.
Add freshly squeezed lemon juice to the syrup. How much depends on how tart or how sweet you want your lemonade.
Add ice and serve your fresh lemonade.
- 3 lemons
- ½ c. of sugar
- 1 c. of water
- lots of ice
- Boil the water and sugar to make the simple syrup. Cook just until the sugar dissolves, adding the lemon zest during the last minute. Cool the syrup.
- Add the juice from the lemons to the syrup. Start with the juice from two lemons, taste and add more until you get the sweet-tart balance that you like. Remember that you will be adding water and ice to complete the lemonade so if the flavors taste too strong at this point, that's really how it ought to be.
- Half fill a pitcher with ice, pour in the lemon mixture, fill up with water, stir and enjoy your ice cold fresh lemonade.
