Humor or malice?

First of all, I’m not responsible for drawing those fangs. We were on our way home from a party last December 30th when we passed by this roadside advert for Callospa Resort here in Antipolo. It was my husband who noticed the fangs.

Callospa

I don’t know if humor or malice drove whoever did it but, heck, we were laughing about it all the way home.

Gail, I wish there were enough bored people to do the same thing with… ummm… politician's tarpaulins and billboards? LOL

  2. Lisa says:

ALL forms of vandalism, no matter what the message is. In Baguio, perfectly pretty walls are spray-painted by "fraternities" of high school kids with their secret lingo – those little perps! If you want to express yourself, design a T-shirt, create a blog! It's bad enough that we have to live with annoying campaign posters every three years. :)

  3. Ludwig says:

There is something wrong in the photo. The person over there looks masculine to me. He bears strong resemblance with Michael V.

  4. ben says:

leave it to some imaginative genius with a fat magic marker to bring all these photo ads back down to the true mediocre depths that these so called creative and marketing idiots of even smaller brain sizes have done to this landscape. did you see that christmas greeting monstrosity conjured up by the belo clinic on billboard central on edsa in guadalupe? somebody should have scaled that ad in the stealth of night and done the same thing to vicki belo's glorified stretchmarked characters of that photo ad horror, and proof that no amount of first world technology will ever do anything to change this big fish in a small pond mentality that this local third world media so loves to inflict on everyone else who knows better.

  5. Michael says:

    Mga pinoy talaga. Heheheh. =)

  6. Gail says:

Natawa ko dun ha  Talk about boredom! And I thought I was bored hahaha

  7. vic says:

I checked the site and disregarding the billboard ad, it offer quite a good relaxing services at affordable prices, and I might even try to visit just to make sure that it is really up to what it says in the WEB. Imagine an overnight stay for a couple with breakfast complete with spa and sauna an whatelse, for 6000 pesos. That is a bargain..

  8. Connie says:

I've been there, Vic, and it's beautiful. The setting is a mini rainforest. Oh, I have photos. Will post in the photo blog later. :)

  9. Pinoy says:

So what else's new? Pinoys/Pinays puting-down fellow countrymen/women either in Pinas or Overseas has been a tradition and a favorite pastime among them. Blacks/hispanics and other minorities also foolow these pattern of behavior, but Pinas people are more skilled in this trade even though they are aware that envy's one of the seven deadly sins. Ugly people are dangerous.

  10. Connie says:

Pinoy, I'm not so sure that this is a case of "putting down" a fellow Filipino. It can actually be construed as a protest against the proliferation of billboards.

  11. John G says:

I use to do this sort of thing when I was a kid. But judging by the hight of the billboard, it could not have been done by a kid. Hence, the malice.

It's likely that the model posing for the ad is the daugther of the owner who is a news reporter at ABC 5. She looks pretty in person, I admit.

I've been there myself. Love the place. I have not tried the spa but will surely do one of these days.

  12. Jayred says:

Humor or malice? Maybe both. Anyway, the end result was quite hilarious.

Maybe I should do the same thing on Swiss billboards. LOL. Para maiba naman.

  13. Connie says:

Actually, John G, it is only about 5 feet in height. And the owner is Mrs. Evangeline Mariñas Garcia, she's over 60 and she's an interior designer by profession. She gave as a tour of the place when we went there (link to photos).

LOL Jayred, wag ka lang pahuhuli hehehehe

  14. lee says:

perfect name for a foot spa. callospa = callos spa = callos paa.

  15. Lisa says:

No matter how billboards or signages offend us, I think we should not condone vandalism. I do not like our habit of messing up road signs, walls, and just about any clean space the same way I do not find it funny when someone holds up two fingers behind a person's head and ruins a perfectly good family photo. If Singapore outlawed chewing gum, I think we should enact a law that prohibits folks from carrying around markers and spray paint. We have to learn to respect personal and public property.

As for the billboards, I want them all gone! Such visual pollution. Accidents can be caused just by drivers counting how many Kris Aquino endorsements there are. And I used to get scared everytime I passed Mayor Catacutan's face on his Capas, Tarlac billboard – hahaha!

  16. Trosp says:

    How about this one -

While I was somewhere in shopping mall at EDSA Central, I saw a van with an advertisement of its principal – FLOW JOB. A drainage repair service…

  17. Connie says:

Lisa, re vandalism: do we include those Mabuhay CPP-NPA! boldly sprayed in red paint on walls, bridges…

Trosp, how about "Talk dirty to me" for a laundromat in Sta. Mesa, Manila? LOL it was actually taken from an old, old episode of Twilight Zone.

  18. Connie says:

Actually, Lisa, if we consider the proliferation of politicians' billboards, their names sprayed on the sides of government vehicles, their initials in flower pots and waiting sheds… we do live with their campaign posters all year round.

  19. jun says:

akala ko rin si Michael V yun at first =) funny.. but yes, we should not condone vandalism in all forms.

And if I can have it my way, I will ban all "greetings" (birthday, Christmas, graduation, etc) and "Asphalt laying and Concreting of road by xxxx" and all other forms similar to these". Para bang pera nila yung ginagamit sa pagpapagawa. And make it punishable. Punishment is 30 days of cleaning up esteros of the Pasig River.

Grrrr.. My funny feeling just turned to anger….Must. See…More… Funny…. Stuff..

  20. apple says:

    Michael V?! Tumpak!

I was even thinking this is one of his famous impersonation masterpieces. hehehe.

well, the deluge of ads along avenues and streets is a constant eyesore, or at times a cause of accidents. since we can't do anything about it, we'd better devise ways to make it a source of humor.

    Kawawa nga lang yung model.
