Home-grown lime

lime

The kaffir lime keeps dying on me but the native lime tree is now bearing fruits. Pretty soon, I won’t have have to use bottle lime juice to make my Silom Sunrise. I’ll just have to go to the garden, pick a lime or two off the tree, cut them and squeeze them… ahhh, the thought is so wonderful. Fresh fruits. From my garden…

But what’s Silom Sunrise? Ooohh, you don’t know? It’s “Tequila Sunrise without orange juice but with pureed sweet ripe mangoes instead.” It’s delicious.

Wow, a lime tree on your backyard!

Ms connie, hindi ako makabuhay ng kalamansi. The leaves always get eaten by insects. Do you know any trick?

    • Naku I’ll ask our gardener. We have a kalamansi tree now but it isn’t growing as fast as the lime and lemon trees.

When we went to Bulacan last month, we stopped by one of the plant shops along the highway. I bought 2 calamansi plants. Tinanim ko sa lupa yung isa, yung isa nilipat ko sa paso. Binahayan ng langgam yung nasa paso! Bakit kaya?! Kahit diligan ko araw-araw, nandun pa rin sila! Naiinis na ako!

I prefer vodka than tequila in my Sunrise drinks. ;)

But lime fresh from the garden? So envious…

Yeah, nice photo— pwedeng kopyahin? I mean I’d like to render it as a painting— acrylic on canvas.

Where did you buy your lime tree?

I have the same problem with my kaffir lime. Now i’m down to one pot but it seems to have stopped growing! My father-in-law game me a small lime tree over the weekend and i’m really excited. I hope i can make it bear fruit too! How long before it bore fruit?

Well, i guess i just have to wait and hope for the best. Just yesterday i saw some caterpillar like insects munching on the leaves! Barely a week with me and i’ve got some bugs having a leaf buffet! Have you had any problems like that?

About the kaffir, yeah hirap talaga. I can only get 2-3 leaves every now and then. Sometimes, i get some leaves, cut them up and freeze them in ice cubes then drop them into stews when needed. I have dried kaffir leaves, pero iba pa din eh.

    • Mine just kind of dried up. I stopped picking the leaves until the tree was much bigger and sturdier (I was thinking baka magtampo) but it still died. And twice ha. Because Speedy bought a new (smaller) one and I kept that potted thinkinng no replanting until it was bigger but it died anyway.
