My daughter Sam wanted to bring home a box of Krispy Kreme donuts last night after a grueling afternoon at the mall shopping for the girls’ shoes and clothes that we had been postponing for weeks. My husband and I, however, weren’t too keen on Krispy Kreme because we find them too sweet — irritatingly sweet, actually, that I never feel like taking a second piece.

The girls fell asleep in the car on the way home and we couldn’t find Krispy Kreme in Global City anyway so my husband just drove to good ol’ Gonuts Donuts. Good thing that decision turned out to be. According to a sign on the wall, Gonuts Donuts started offering a cupcake line about two months ago.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give Gonuts Donuts cupcakes 8.5. The cakes are soft and moist and the frosting is firm enough that it doesn’t drip YET still not taste like flavored shortening and flour. The frosting of the hazelnuts choco cupcake has real hazelnuts and the peanut butter choco cupcake was just divine.
Too bad I can’t tell you how much they cost — I lost the receipt.

it costs P 35 each while a box of 3 cupcakes costs P 100
Found the receipt after posting the entry. Box of 6 costs P190.00. Cheaper by the half dozen.
i tried the screaming cheese cupcake and at first, i thought i would be disappointed, but it was not bad at all. you’re right in describing it as moist and the frosting, i agree does not fall off into a gooey mess. i beg to disagree with your comment on krispy kreme…i like their donuts better…i can only eat one, but it is a real treat of sweet goodness. i’d rather eat one krispy kreme than 2 of any other donuts combined. that’s just me, of course.
you have a higher tolerance for sweet food, chunky. Krispy Kreme makes my throat dry and screaming for cold water.
I agree. Krispy Kreme is sweeter. I usually just have the amazing glaze. The rest of the selections have more sugar. GoNuts Donuts ok too but sometimes I also find it sweet. To satisfy my donut craving, I buy Cellos cocktail donuts. Goodness in a bite-sized package.
The Krispy Kreme at Global City is at the Bonifacio High Street — along the park across Serendra on the side opposite Market! Market!.
But I agree that Gonuts Donuts is the way to go. I mean, KK is like 30 bucks a piece. GD is 18 – 25 — and tastes better, IMHO.
Ayan tinatakam tuloy ako… hehehe.
Em, that’s probably why fancy donuts are best if limited to once every several weeks. Nakakasawa.
Jon, Krispy Kreme franchise must cost a lot. Hence, the price.
We could only buy Krispy Kreme donuts from across the border before, so when the first store opened in our area there was a long line-up for a long while. At some point, a Police Officer had to control traffic. It was not easy trying to find a parking spot then. Things seem to have settled down now. I enjoyed the gooey donuts for awhile but am now back to my forever fave Tim Horton’s honey glaze.
I find that your blog has all the information I need for my next visit: Places to stay and relax, eat, and new delicacies (instead of the usual pastilyas) to bring home to the children and grandchildren.
By the way, is Gonuts Donuts a coffee shop or is it just takeout?
Thanks, Connie.
I also prefer Gonuts than KK, masyadong matamis ang KK for me.
Yup, kk is too sweet. I’m not fan of kk.
Josie, LOL I never noticed. I just bought and went. I think there were tables outside but it was raining so… darn, I didn’t notice.
Josie, Connie
Depends on the branch. Gonuts Donuts Global City is a cafe. So is the one in SM Mall of Asia. There are some branches (like the one inside SM Makati, and in Greenbelt 3) which are takeout only.
KK fan here, but true, it’s very sweet, and I have a very sweet tooth. Just the glazed variety for me will do, though.
I miss Cello’s!!! Darn u, Em Dy, for reminding me
(p.s. i’m outta country, understand the frustration..)
Connie, try Cello’s. Branches known (last time I was there):
1) Taft
2) QC (in front of Ateneo, along the strip of mag net, rustan’s, & the rest of the restaus there..)
sometime_lurker, QC across from Ateneo sounds more realistic for me, thank you. Will remember the name. Cello’s.
I second that. if you’re keen on the sugar. Cello’s the one to go for.
Thanks re Gonuts Donuts info, Connie & Jon. I usually stay for 3 or 4 weeks only, so it’s good to know good places to hang out with friends (Lolas enjoy hanging out, too, you know LOL). I already picked up a few tips from you Connie.
connie,
cello’s din have sa greenhills. i prefer kk though. go nut donuts nakakasuya (cloying). why not have a poll on what do nut people prefer?
Hi Connie, the cupakes look so yummy. I better try those asap, am also a KK fan. I love sweets. Thanks for posting.
oops sorry, that should be cupcakes…
Ms. Connie,
I’ve been eyeing those cupcakes for weeks. I wanted to wait for after my blood sugar test to try them. Well, last Friday, on the pretext of buying those luscious cupcakes for Faith, I took home 3. Faith only liked the icing, while I finished off 2 of them. J sulked bec. he only got to eat 1, LOL. The day after, I was off to the clinic for my blood sugar test and the cupcakes showed in the results.
arny, a poll sounds like a good idea. will look for a nice script.
soloops, blood sugar was never my problem when pregnant. i was often hyperacidic though.
makes me wish for a box of Edna’s mouth-watering ensaymada or butter roll or cupcakes or ube roll or — basta… sarap sarap naman picture pa lang.
Auee, you mean Edna’s Cakeland in Cabanatuan?
hi Con,
people these days are going nuts over Cupcakes by Sonja somewhere in Serendra, have you ever heard of it? They say it’s a bit pricey, Pph98/pc :-O for the Melt-In-Your-Mouth Chocolate Cupcake. I haven’t tried it yet. Perhaps you can tell us once you and your kids have tasted it
ogz, we rarely go to that area. Besides, I’m wary of fads. If it’s that good, it should still be there in a year or two.
hello, connie…
i tried the GD cupcakes…yummy and unique….the cupcake at sonia’s is graabee sa mahal….and my kids found the athmosphere parang sweet 16nish…besides, the GD cupcakes are affordable…it goes well with the GD coffee din pala…i buy it everytime at Glorietta’s food choices while the kids are zapping aliens at time zone…and you’re right, the cupcakes and the donuts must be bought after a month or so para you’ll talagang crave for it and really enjoy the eating experience.
Hi Connie!
I’ve heard you liked our cupcakes. I thought you might want to also try our new product – STICKY ROLLS that we are launching today at Fort/SM Makati/Glorietta and Greenbelt. If you want, I can give you some samples. Please contact me at my email address, we love to make our guests really GO NUTS with our products. I hope to hear from you soon!
hazel, thanks but samples are not necessary. we’ll just drop by soon and try them. i’ll just surprise you with my review.
p.s. hope you’re taking note of readers’ comments too — one of the things we all appreciate about Gonuts Donuts is the comparatively more affordable prices. Hope you keep them that way.
ms. connie, i could only agree with the posts on GD against KK. guess i don’t have that much sweet tooth but a donut bum still. my friend and I usually go to GD after most of our walking routines at the Fort. too ironic to be exercising then eat donuts, huh? he he he! just really cant resist! anyway, once we found a really long line at KK and got curious, but after that one visit, we vowed never again. we want to try the cello’s but they just are way out of our way, maybe someday.
thanks for your inspiring blogs/suggestions/comments and recipes. more power and hope you keep your site for the longest time.
oops, forgot something. i just want to recommend the low sugar donut varieties at GD. those are really my favs coupled with their hazelnut coffeemix. really mouth watering!
