Electric tricycles

electric-tricycles

If there’s one thing I liked about Global City, it was the absence of jeepneys and tricycles. Not anymore. There are tricycles in Global City now. Powered by electricity and imported from Japan according to the drivers. But they’re still tricycles. If their numbers aren’t controlled, they will overrun Global City in much the same way that Pasig has become tricycle country. I don’t understand the need for them really — I mean, in Global City. Isn’t the shuttle service enough? Sure, electricity powered tricycles may mean less pollution. But the same irritating tricycle mentality is there already — parking on the street, drivers hanging out… Sheesh.

hanggang sa Global City sinusundan ka ng mga tricycle ms connie!

    • Na shock nga ako eh. If they’re already allowed to park like that on the street, how much more “exemptions” from traffic rules will they be allowed in the future? Eh dito sa Pinas, feeling ng mga tricycle drivers, exempted sila sa lahat dahil, “Naghahanp-buhay lang po.”

Those electric trikes are great for going around Fort without having to walk or wait for the shuttle service. The latter just takes too long to go around and are almost always full. The trikes are for free but you may be nice enough to give the manong P5 or P10 as a tip.

I totally disagree with your opinion about the humble tricycle. For one thing, most people in the Philippine cannot afford the luxury of having a car and one of the cheapest and most convenient way for them is to ride public transportation like a tricycle. Second point, I think that the introduction of electronic tricycles and e-jeepneys are a step forward for the country instead of a step backwards. It’s a sustainable mode of transportation meaning it’s eco-friendly since it doesn’t produce deadly toxins that pollute Metro Manila’s air, it doesn’t cause noise pollution like regular vehicles, it doesn’t take up a lot of space on the road like regular cars and it provides alternative jobs for our fellow countrymen. It’s one of the most genius solutions to solving Metro Manila’s problem with pollution and unemployment. Plus, it’s not an eye-sore like you claim it to be. They don’t cause traffic in The Fort area (I should know, I live there). It’s the regular cars who do that and most of the drivers I’ve talked with are very courteous and helpful.

Not to be quarrelsome, but I hope that people like you will start seeing these kinds of tricycles for what they truly are… A SOLUTION.
