Crepes and cheese

crepes and cheeseMy family used to love pancakes. We’ve been pancake eaters for years until I discovered a very simply recipe for crepes at the back of a Maya pancake mix box. Since then, pancake mixes becomes crepes… oh, about four out of five times. We like experimenting with syrups to go with the crepes too. Like the time I thinned a jar of strawberry jam with whole strawberries and poured the syrup over the crepes. My 13-year-old daughter often makes the crepes these days.

Early this morning, since there was nothing to use for sandwich filling (a reminder that we need to go to the supermarket before the day ends), I decided to make some crepes for the kids’ baon. After packing their lunchboxes, there was still enough batter to make a second batch of crepes. I made five more crepes, arranged them as you see in the photo, added a tablespoonful of Cheez Weez on top, put them in the warm oven until the cheese melted then gave a plate of cheese-topped crepes to my husband. He’s not a breakfast eater but he finished all that you see in the photo. :)

connie there’s this great, inexpensive place called harri’s on quintos st. (beside land bank) in malate that’s run by this german national who makes these similar pancake ‘crepes’ where he wraps homemade hungarian, bratwurst and kielbasa sausages from locally-sourced meat but made in his native traditional recipes, smothered with cheese and onions, along with a separate sweet tooth line of fruit and dessert fillings ranging from pineapple to banana, mango to blueberry. the place is simply packed at lunchtime and throughout the merienda hours of 3pm to 5pm, and he’s got german frickadelles (german style burgers) and schnitzel as well. it’s a must try to bring the whole family there if you’re ever around the area. :)

    LOL katrin.

thanks, relly. :) been wanting to fill them with whipped cream and fruits but whipping cream in this climate can be so trying.

i checked with harri’s and unfortunately the german takes a break on sundays, so sorry about that! but the desserts (pancakes and waffles) will get you hooked to the place, and that’s saying a lot coming from me, a non-dessert, non-sweet tooth person. another suggestion would be to go on a saturday afternoon and you can hit both solidaridad and harri’s with one stroke! cheers. :)

  8. Connie says:
