Color schemes for teenage girls’ bedrooms

I believe in the saying that a house should reflect the personality of its owners. That’s why hiring a professional interior decorator was the farthest thing from my mind. Besides, half the fun in buying a new house is in designing and decorating everything — from the colors to the accents to the lighting fixtures. Why let an interior decorator have all the fun? We deserve to have all the fun. :)

So, it follows that every room should reflect the personality of its occupants. My daughters chose the color schemes for their bedrooms based on their interests.

Black and white motif for a photo buff's bedroom

Sam’s bedroom (above) has two walls in flat white and two walls in flat black. Why a black and white motif? Because she intends to use the walls as backgrounds for her macro photography. If black and white sounds too stark (and I told her that), that door in the photo will be painted red to match the red micro blinds on her windows. Very chic.

Alex’s room (below) has the best window in the entire house. An arched bow window with a view of the neighborhood.

A arched bow window

Alex's walls are in flat white because she intends to paint them with cherry blossoms.

Yellow is her favorite color and the flat white walls will serve as the canvass for her cherry blossoms paintings. She intends to hand-paint the walls herself. She already did a design on her sketchpad and, in the next couple of months, she will be reproducing the design on the walls of her bedroom.

Gotta trust my girls with their own interior design ideas.

    Everything looking good!!!

Your mom is right Sam. You need to start saving. You can’t depend on your mom and dad forever. A few more years you will need your own ride. …hahaha.

I definitely agree with you, bedroom is the only room in the house where you can call it “your own”, it’s your secret hiding place , it’s your sanctuary, so the decor has to reflect who you are! Two diff personalities, but they’re both smart girls, I like it the way they chose their wall colours, it’s not just for decor but it also serves a purpose at the same time! :)

Ang ganda ng both rooms. My elder daughter would prefer the black walls :D My younger would probably prefer the cheery room with yellow furnitures.

ganda ng new house mo Connie, how is the budget going :D

    dhayL, utilitarian like me hehehe

Julie, re “how is the budget going”

Actually, the painting and the refurbishing come with the package price hehehe What we had to spend on were the lighting fixtures, the “upgrades” (door handles, etc.), the new furniture and appliances… Those things, well, I told myself yesterday stop buying already hahaha

With the top bedroom, are the black and white walls opposite eachother or are there two black walls sharing a corner and two white walls sharing a corner?
