About time that textbooks with medieval ideas were junked!

I'm happy for you being one of the lucky wives whose husband doesn't expect to be served a la lord of the manor. :)

hi connie! i've been reading your blogs for a while now (specially the food blog) and i'd like to thank you on insights such as these... living in the middle east, i don't really have much friends and consider bloggers such as you my "friends"! :)
Just want to say, I've a daughter in Gr. 3 now and I remembered noting in her Filipino textbook in Gr.1 i think, that they've already changed the family concept, the father is no longer "haligi ng tahanan" and the mother no longer "ilaw ng tahanan", natuwa talaga ako when I saw that the parents were described to be equal in role inside and outside the home and it was mentioned that in most Filipino families both parents work . :) the dad no longer pictured "sinusuotan ng tsinelas" :) nakakaaliw din the definition of "maliit na pamilya" and "malaking pamilya" where the maliit na pamilya are a bit more comfortable, able to buy things they want easily, while on the other hand naman the malaking pamilya has got a lot of family members to share the household chores...
in the case of our home, both hubby and I cook, but Friday morning is "officially" his turn to prepare breakfast and I'm allowed to sleep in :)
we share the chores but mostly, i'm the "supervisor" and it's safe for me to say that he works with minimum supervision, hehe!

My husband grew up in Morocco where the culture was the same (maybe even worse). Woody has always danced to the beat of a different drum. He has always seen things differently and acted differently from the norm and I'm so proud of him for it. When he was younger he would make his mom get out of the kitchen so she could rest while he took over the cooking duties.

His Dad and oldest brother thought he was weird. They are the type who complain when they come and there isn't enough food, or the food isn't done to their liking, even though she's been in the kitchen for hours.

Woody knows the value of a good woman, and has always been secure enough to buck tradition. Would more men do the same. And more women pick them. I blame the women too, and the mothers who raise them. Mothers need to start raising sons worthy of having a good woman. And they need to start raising daughters who know their worth.
