For the next 25 days or so, I will be by myself all morning for five days a week. My younger girl’s English (theater) summer camp started two weeks ago and, tomorrow, my 13-year-old’s soccer summer program will begin. They will be away from 6.30 a.m. until noon from Monday to Friday. Naturally, we had been savoring the freedom of the last few days when we could all sleep late and get up even later. There will be a short respite between the summer programs and the start of the new schoolyear but, for the next 25 days, it will be hectic.
Part of savoring the last few days of their “real” summer vacation was watching movies–lots of movies. In the movie house, on DVDs, on satellite TV… I don’t remember having watched so many movies almost every day. Of course, some of them we just re-watched but some were new. Like Æon Flux.
Okay, I’m a huge sci-fi fan. So are my daughters. We’re Matrix addicts. My 12-year-old even writes down and memorizes those Matrix theories on reality delivered in dialogues and monologues in the film. We’re also huge fans of cinematic visual effects. Hence, we had been anticipating the release of Æon Flux for quite some time. I can’t complain about the story–the plot was pretty good. A scientist’s good intentions, political power grab, a rebellion borne out of a longing to be free from a gilded cage, a sleek female assasin… it was entertainment par excellence. I can’t complain about the visual effects either. From the production design to the costumes, everything just fell into place. Well, except for the lead role.

Whatever you do Connie, do NOT, NOT watch Ultraviolet. My brother's comments: "The best 5 minutes of the movie was when I fell asleep."
Gotta catch AEF soon.
ang balita ko pinoy ang nagtrain kay Charlize.
I like Angeline Jolie in action pictures. Galing.
from the very first announcement that Charlize Theron was cast in the lead role, we were sorely disappointed.
we had been looking forward to the movie, being scifi nuts as well =) to be honest though, i couldn't think of anyone for the role except angelina jolie. do you suppose it's because she's already "lara croft" that she couldn't play aeon flux as well?
true, charlize is a good actress. i just don't think aeon flux is a good "fit" for her. it's not the first time a great actress got bogged down by a role that wasn't right for her (Halle Berry in the uber-horrible "Catwoman" comes to mind.)
having read your review, perhaps we'll just go watch silent hill instead (our first choice anyway, hehe).
pinayhekmi, seen the trailer of Ultraviolet several times and I can sympathize with your brother. Trailer pa lang, ayaw ko na! hehehehe
ca t, "pinoy ang nagtrain kay Charlize"
kaya OA?
Chevee, yeah, AJ would have been more convincing. But typecasting issues aside, you know, even Kate Beckinsdale would have been a better choice than Charlize Theron. I mean, she has this uber-feminine image too but the transition when she did Underworld was credible.
Catwoman was 10 times worse that Aeon Flux.
Too bad, was looking forward to Ultraviolet because we love Milla. Darn.
Hmmm, yeah, Kate Beckinsale. It's possible. Do you suppose it was her bad reviews for Van Helsing that counted against her?
Halle Berry fan or not, I think Catwoman is possibly the worst movie I've ever seen. A total waste of money.
I watched it but I'm not sure if I like it or not.
Chevee, that may be. Pucha, Van Helsing was a sleeper. But, yah, Catwoman was the pits. THE PITS!
LOL noemi, that's a unique way of putting it.
