
I’m sure they’re mythological characters but what exactly, I have no idea. Fearsome creatures to shoo away would-be robbers or a lucky charm for all businesses in the building? Reminds me of Lara Croft.

I remember in China/Korea/Japan the statues outside of temples always featured one with the mouth open and one with the mouth closed — to prevent the good fortune from getting away is what i eventually learned.
