The marinade injector. I included the teaspoon in the photo to give you an idea of the size of the needle which I hope is clearly visible through the packaging. I told my daughters it was for their booster shots.
Of course, they didn’t believe me. But it was funny anyway.

Below, the bamboo steamers.

What’s the big deal about bamboo steamers, anyway? My father and my grandfather used bamboo steamers ONLY. I wasn’t very particular and I used metal steamers for years. Then someone told me that puto (rice cakes) and siopao (bread dumplings) won’t rise properly in a metal steamer because the condensation falls right back into the bread. Whereas, the bamboo cover absorbs the condensation. Makes sense so we went hunting for bamboo steamers.

Meanwhile, the roasting pan above is large enough to hold a 14-pound turkey. I’m roasting a turkey on the 30th as our pot luck contribution to our Christmas party with friends. Then, another duckling for our family New Year’s Eve dinner. Like I said, I don’t want a repeat of what happened on Christmas Eve.

dear connie, where i could find that bamboo steamers kaya, and how much is the price…kasi from the time that i found out your site, i became interested in making native delicacies and i like that bamboo steamer which i saw before in your recent articles, my regards, thank you very much
we bought them at Cooks Exchange at SM Megamall, stephanie. 650 pesos. Rustan’s also has bamboo steamers but without the metal frame.
Hello Ms. Connie,
Your PEARL BALLS entry is what prompted to post a comment in the Gadgets and Tools Category.
I find the your BAMBOO STEAMER is very beautiful but a bit pricey. I have an all bamboo steamer from QUIAPO but I noticed that the bamboo warps after some time and needs replacement and the cost, although cheap, does add up.
Does the stainless steel rim of your bamboo steamer help in preventing the warping of the bamboo? Although a bit expensive, I am considering investing in a set if it is much sturdier than what I have at present.
The extra cost may justify the time and effort I would have to spend going to Quiapo to replace my steamers everytime they warp.
Thanks.
Yes, the metal rim keeps the bamboo pieces together. I’ve had this steamer for 2-1/2 years and it’s still great.
Cooks Exchange rin yung injection, I assume?
Yes.
