I agree with you Ms C , its your impression after an afternoon at Patong Beach . I felt much the same way after visiting recently . Though I can recommend getting away from Patong to other parts of Phuket or even better Krabi etc. Use Patong as a springboard , lol , and not for much else .

I fell in love with The Philippines in the early 80's and I've been singing its praises ever since , sadly I'm drowned out by the events that periodically occur within the country , sigh . But I keep banging the drum as I feel The Philippines has so much to offer , and its still undeveloped, which now appeals more to discerning travellers than what you find on Thai beaches .

I'm more concerned about how local establishments take advantage of tourists than any security issue -- the latter mostly just media hype.

Wow, what an accusation -- like I intentionally misled my readers into thinking that my impression is the be-all and end-all of Phuket when it says right there in the title that the article is about my afternoon in Patong Beach. Why don't you just come out and say you feel hurt because the article is a negative impression of your home. Funny thing is that you don't refute any of the things I wrote about.

Thanks for your advice but I like to choose the company I keep.

What a shame you chose to base your entire opinion of Phuket on an afternoon trip to Patong !! That would be similar to me basing my opinion of the Philippines on a 3 hour visit to Sen. P. Burgos St. in Makati !! You chose to ignore the opportunity to explore the whole island (with its many towns/ villages and beaches which are FAR superior to Patong) in favour of an afternoon visit to the one place on the island that even those of us who have homes in Phuket choose to avoid wherever possible.

Next time you visit Phuket let someone know you are coming - and see the island you missed !!

installment labas ng "traveller's diary" mo ah. hahaha... yeah, i also agree that we have better beaches, sayang lang talaga kasi kulang sa marketing/tourism ads. and of course, who can forget dos palmas kidnapping incident... that's the main concern of the foreigners, whenever i ask a foreigner i know to visit philippines, they're more concerned of the security issue. 'kakalungkot lang. sabagay kahit nga mga pinoy nakikidnap din eh. but the thing is, sa isang part lang ng pinas nangyayari but the whole tourism industry ang affected... my wish lang naman...kelan kaya mangyayari yun, eh maging kasing efficient ng sg ang pinas... hahaha.... tourist friendly, other thaN some people na hindi courteous, at least man lang hindi feeling harassed o mahoholdap mga turista. hahaha!
