After all the brouhaha over the benighted commenter in Sexy Mom’s blog, some light at the end of the tunnel.
I visited the site of a current advertiser of Pinoy Cook and there was a banner ad at the bottom of the page that said: “Vote for the sexiest Asian!” Curious, I clicked on the banner and was transported to a page with the photos of 18 lovely women. I quickly scanned them, wondering why my photo wasn’t there! Neither was Dexie‘s, Dine‘s or Noemi‘s. In fact, not one member of Pinoy Moms Network was there. And I thought, there’s something royally screwed with this list…
But, seriously, my first impression was that there was not even one Filipina on the list. Then, I saw the photo of Lea Salonga. I felt jubilant. There was not even one Filipina there who became a celebrity because she takes off her clothes for a living. No Diana Zubiri, no Francine Prieto.
If Lea Salonga embodies a hot a sexy Filipina, we should rejoice. She is intelligent, talented, an outstandingly successful artist and, now, a wife and mother too.
As I went through the rest of the names and photos, I felt even more pleased. Among those on the list were Michelle Yeoh, Margaret Cho, Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li, Ming-Na and Shu Qi. Some of the rest, I am not familiar with.
From Margaret Cho’s blog, I reached The REAL Hot 100. Oh, I love the tagline: See how hot smart can be.
The annual Real Hot 100 list shows that young women are “hot” for reasons beyond looking good in a magazine. By featuring this list of young women from around the country doing incredible things in their every day lives, we’re battling the popular notion that all young women have to offer is outward appearances. The annual list is just a first step. Through the Real Hot 100 network, nominees and winners can combine their resources, share strategies and join forces to further their social causes and to affect real change.

Today’s surfing and blogging just kicked off towards the right direction.

hi connie – i guess the ‘hottest’ we can find in PMN
but it is good to know that the idea of hot and sexy is changing — focusing not on the poses but on their causes.
I voted for Lea siyempre
I recognized Devon Aoki, Keiko Agena, and Sandra Oh… but Bai Ling is there? Parang nakakasira ng list.
Substance vs. form, di ba Raqgold? That’s what really matters, after all.
Christianne, Sandra Oh is the one in Grey’s Anatomy, right? Who is Bai Ling…
P.S. I read about her after posting the above. Susme.
reshaping the image of sexy asian image is great idea! Lea exemplifies it all. I met her right after she gave birth. she grew even prettier and confident.
“she grew even prettier and confident.”
Motherhood does that to a lot of women, eh?
natawa ako when christianne mentioned Bai Ling — i totally agree – i dont know why she’s in there at all!!
I agree … LEA is one Filipina the exemplifies it all.
Nice to know we have one Filipina on that list!
whuuut, I’m not in it? pox on them… LOL
Kiddingly aside, I’m so glad Lea Salonga is in that list. She is the epitome all our young filipina should emulate. Well, besides the Pinoy Moms Network of course
Raqgold, I saw her Playboy cover and the claims about being engaged and they guy denying it… ano ba namang klase yun?
Sassy Mom, it was a pretty great pic of Lea too on the sight, ‘no?
Dexie, I tell ya, they made a bloody mistake by not including us. HAHAHAHA
Shu Qi was once upon a time herself a sleazy soft-porn model. She was fortunate to have been able to reinvent herself with “So Close”, although I am unhappy she has yet to penetrate mainstream Hollywood after (the B movie) “Transporter”.
She was??? Wow, I didn’t know that. First time I saw her was in Transporter. Love “So Close”.
Haha yeah.
Once upon a time during the heydays of Kazaa she was part of my image and video download queue. I think I still have some files stashed away in a backup CD somewhere… Boys will be boys of course. LOL
However part of the admiration was how she got out of that bind. Apparently she was one of very few who was able to break through a seemingly impenetrable “once-a-porn-star-always-a-porn-star” barrier in HK cinema.
And I say good for her.
connie, haha — you shld see bai ling’s curious displays in the ramps of europe, talagang ibang klase. our lea is way above par — hmm, an idea clicked, will email you abt it.
nice one…. blogging is heading in the right direction…
Now to this voting malarkey, should we vote for the entire PMN? hehe
anong balita dto mga katropa?
hi, i’am as from ksa.
