Whether it’s because people have more free time during the summer or because they want to avail of the free air-conditioning, malls are very crowded these days, especially during weekends. The other Sunday, we were at TriNoma because I needed to go to the supermarket and Sam needed socks, and Alex and I felt our head spinning. There were just too many people — not in the supermarket, mind you, but in the main mall. Surprisingly or not, queues to the cashiers’ counters weren’t long at all. Which really translates to people don’t necessarily go to the mall to shop but just to hang out.
The question, of course, is what does mall management do when sales aren’t that good but the air-conditioning needs to be kept on in order to accommodate the crowds in the mall? Yesterday, we were talking to a friend who told us that at SM Marikina, the air-conditioning is turned off at around 6.00 p.m. Heck, that’s four hours before closing time! Is that smart or dumb?
Of course, if the heat inside the mall becomes unbearable, people will leave. But what about the genuine customers? The ones who do go there to actually shop and not just to hang out? I don’t know who’s the real loser in such a situation.

hi ms. connie. i share the same sentiment whenever i go to the mall. nakakainis when it’s too crowded with people na wala naman silang specific purpose there kundi tumambay. i usually go to sm north for shopping and grocery needs. when i bring my little one, we avoid the main mall and usually stay at the block or annex. ang luwag sa the block and annex, esp. on the upper floors. bakit kaya? probably one reason is that on both buildings, dito located ang mga expensive shops. hehe.
You know, that’s why when we go and see a movie, we go either to Eastwood or Shangri-La. Just to avoid the tambay crowds. At TriNoma, it’s terrible. The couches on the aisles? People actually take their naps there. Adults ha.
i agree. trinoma’s terrible. LOL
Sam hates TriNoma hahahaha The only thing I love about that mall is the supermarket. But then again, Unimart is better.
I’m living in Las Pinas but and I always visit Trinoma every time I have the time. they’ve great eating places there. My favorite is the Kamay Kainan buffet.
My favorite is La Maison.
He he he. Well, I would say if we go to mall for shopping, then, we shop. Or if we would like to see a movie, then so be it.
My CIC is always bothered when we’re a mall with my always looking around. She would always say my maliciously looking around. Duh…
Why go anywhere without a definite purpose, anyway, right? Many people don’t know how to make good use of their free time.
