When I conducted the digital photography workshop recently and waived the professional fee, an honorarium was given instead in the form of a gift certificate to a book sale. I wasn’t there to receive the gift certificate but Sam and Alex were. And since it was also the last day of the book sale, they decided to use it and they came home with Chris Wooding’s The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray. Had I been there to use the gift certificate personally, I’m pretty sure I would have ended with the same book, or something similar, because with Alex beside me, she would have batted her eyes and made all the cute gestures to get me to agree that The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray was the best choice among the lot. What is it about? Witches and other horrible creatures.
