50th wedding anniversary

Dinner was a mixture of home-cooked dishes, take-outs, deliveries and store-bought food. We brought grilled chickens; and there was pancit lomi (an egg noodle soup), broiled shrimps, lumpiang ubod (spring roll stuffed with shredded heart of the coconut palm) and a pineapple upside-down cake from Goldilocks bakeshop. I couldn’t each much though.

At the mall earlier in the afternoon, we had this all-you-can-eat merienda buffet at Dad’s restaurant and I had at least three servings of dinuguan with puto, in addition to countless gyoza, a bowl of ramen and tokwa’t baboy. My only excuse is that I didn’t have lunch so that by 3.00 p.m., I was really starving. Yeah, excuses, excuses. The more truthful statement would be that it felt good to eat when I wasn’t not dead tired from cooking, the way things are most days at home. And the food wasn’t even that great, except for the dinuguan.

The kids didn’t eat much. They said everything was tasteless, specifically the carbonara and the pancit palabok. I can’t disagree. Those two noodle dishes were really bad. Anyway, they more than made up for the lousy buffet when they had their fill at their grandparents’ surprise 50th wedding anniversary dinner party. They feasted on the shrimps and chicken and they were full and content on the way home.

I have often thought about how nice it would be to be celebrating one's golden anniversary. My wife loves ceremonies so I know she'll be just as thrilled as she was when we got married. But then, we still have a long way to go.

Teka, when you got to your in-laws, nakakain ka pa? hehe

  2. Half a bowl of pancit lomi hehehehe
