Beef, bacon and chorizo pasta sauce

The holidays are almost over. But until they are, there will still be a lot of unexpected guests and gatherings. The other day, I decided to make a huge pot of pasta sauce that would go well with spaghetti, macaroni or even lasagne, put it in an airtight container and kept it in the fridge. ... (more)

Vegetable chopper

A lot of people shy away from home cooking because of the amount of time and effort it entails. Actually, both can be cut by more than half with the help of simple kitchen tools and gadgets. Finely chopping vegetables, for instance, can be really tedious. There are some tools that make manual work less ... (more)

Ham and cheese omelet

My husband took the kids to school this morning for their twice weekly reporting to the Kumon Center. They were in such a rush that no one had a proper breakfast. Since they would only be there for about an hour, I used that hour to make some ham and cheese omelets. I cooked two ... (more)

Two – thirds and counting

Two-thirds of the recipes have been re-posted. I can’t wait until all the transferring is done and I can go back to normal blogging mode. Anyway, I should explain a few things. Strawberry milkshake

My daughters’ contribution to the Christmas day chow. They can do this with their eyes closed. My 11-year-old trimmed the strawberries while my 13-year-old was reacquating herself with the Thunderstick Pro. I just took photos afterwards.

I don’t think we can have ham sandwiches until we can finish the 2-kilos+ of ham that my husband bought for Christmas. Time to get creative with the ham. Tonight’s dinner was a pasta dish. The sauce is the classic Alfredo sauce but, instead of serving it plain with the pasta, I added chopped ham. ... (more)

Christmas ham from Majestic

We don’t normally have ham for Christmas. I know, I know–it’s tradition. But we’ve been having roast duck for the past couple of years. We eat what we want, not what tradition says. If we feel like having ham in July instead, that’s fine. Anyway, we’ve been buying imported U.S. duckling for our roast duck. ... (more)

Pre Christmas callos

Multi-tasking has taken on a new dimension for me this Christmas. Between the huge task of reconstructing this blog after last Sunday’s database debacle, changing the curtains, laundering the seat covers, cooking and having the house ready for family reunions before the New Year, I don’t know how I’ve survived the past week without tearing ... Not quite complete

You are viewing the “new” Home Cooking Rocks!, now running on WordPress. It’s the only option since I cannot have multiple installations of my Expression Engine. It’s also a way of finally separating the databases for my blogs. I’m still in the process of moving the files. More than a third of the recipes are ... (more)

Chicken chop suey

Yesterday’s lunch was made with the meat from one chicken breast, fresh carrot and string beans, and canned straw mushrooms and baby corn. To retain the correct texture for each ingredient, it is best to cook them one at a time. The chicken goes first, then the fresh vegetables and, finally, the canned vegetables.
