Today, I am an alarm clock. In about 15 minutes, I am going to call up Alex who is at the condo to wake her up so she can be on time to leave to see a play at 10.00 a.m. as part of a class requirement. No problem, really, since I meant to stay up to watch the live telecast of the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games which was scheduled to start at 4.00 a.m.
The thing is, an hour into the telecast, I started to get sleepy. Darn, except for the oversized Lord Voldemort (or was that a dementor?) hovering over the stadium, the Chariots of Fire segment and the Indian-inspired dance, I really had a hard time keeping my eyes open. When the parade of athletes began, I decided to just post this recipe while I wait for 6.00 a.m. to make that call to Alex. After that, I am going to bed.
This is a recipe for ranch dressing. What is ranch dressing? A salad dressing made with mayonnaise, buttermilk, garlic and spices. We had salad for dinner last night and I made ranch dressing to pour over it. Except that my ranch dressing didn’t have buttermilk because I had none. I just made a substitute by stirring lemon juice into regular milk.
Recipe: Ranch dressing
- 3/4 c. of mayonnaise
- 4 to 6 tbsps. of milk, depending on how thick or thin you want your dressing
- 2 tbsps. of lemon juice
- 1 tsp. of grated garlic
- salt, to taste
- white pepper, to taste
- 1/2 tsp. of dried parsley
- 1/4 tsp. of dried thyme
- 1/4 tsp. of dried tarragon
- 1/2 tsp. of finely chopped onion leaves
- a pinch or two of paprika
- In a bowl, whisk together the milk, mayonnaise and lemon juice until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in the rest of the ingredients, including the garlic.
